Mansfield Sr. Cubs can’t contain big Midland hits in double header

The Mansfield Sr Cubs hosted the Midland Mariners for a double header on the diamond at Mansfield on Sunday, July 7.

The first game of the day got underway at 2:00 p.m. and was a tight battle for the entire game.

The Mariners managed to come out on top with a 4 -3 win.

After break the teams returned for the second match-up of the afternoon.

The Cubs got the bats moving early in the game and were leading 8 -4 at the end of the first inning.

The second saw the Cubs load the bases but they couldn’t finish and the side retired.

It was a tie game when the Mariners got up to bat starting with a two-run home run from Jason Seeler.

That was followed up by another two-run home run by Liam Bryant to make it an 8 -8 game.

Devon Caldwell led off for the Cubs in the third inning with a well placed hit past second base to put two men on base. The Cubs could not advance the runners.

Bryant hit his second home run of the game to bring in three Midland runs and give the Mariners an 11 – 8 lead.

For the rest of the game the Cubs were hitting but they just couldn’t finish and bring anyone in.

The game was pretty much over in the sixth inning when another three-run home run from the Mariners brought the score to 15 – 8.

The final inning with no hits and no runs to end the game 15 – 8 for the Midland team.

The Cubs will be on the road this week when they take the ride down Highway 10, to Orangeville to take on the Giants at Princess of Wales Park.

Game time is 3:00 p.m.
