A person has been charged with second-degree murder, assault, and failure to comply with a probation order after an OPP investigation involving a dispute at a home on Hurontario Street in Mono.

Police from Dufferin OPP and Dufferin County Paramedics were called to the location last Friday (Nov. 1), around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a dispute at the residence.

A deceased person was found at the address.

When police responded they found several individuals at the location.

The OPP initially released a report indicating a death of a suspicious nature at the location and advised there was was no risk to public safety.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A publication ban is in place with only some information being released at this time.

However the identity of the deceased has been confirmed as 50-year-old Taranjit Singh.

Police have charged Brampton resident Anmol Saggu, 27.

Mr. Saggu was remanded in police custody after a Brampton court appearance Saturday.

“We cannot release the cause of death because the publication ban is on evidence,” said Dufferin OPP Const. Shannon Gordanier. “We have released the names.”

Const. Gordanier said they have received several inquiries about the name of the victim and whether it is the full and correct name. She said the OPP believes the name is correct and are currently checking to make sure that the name is indeed correct.

“The victim – we’ve had a few inquiries if that is the full or correct name,” Const. Gordanier said. “We are looking into that. We believe it is correct. If there is a change we will release that.”

The incident is not considered to involve a ‘domestic’ type dispute.

Investigators have wrapped up the investigation on site and the location has been ‘released.’
