Shelburne Library newsOur programs are really gaining in popularity... Cross Canada “train Rides” with the Tipling Stage Company on Saturday provided an educational, fun and interactive activity for our young explorers. TD Summer Reading: On Monday, it was a cooking fest with Chef Heather Hayes-McIntosh and all the young chefs creating strawberry shortcakes from scratch and then enjoying them with delicious berries and whipped cream. Not only was it fun to eat the treat but it involved all sorts of lessons on baking, making healthy snacks and generally how to work carefully and efficiently in the kitchen. You can't beat that when you top it off with whipped cream and berries! Surprising how literacy activities can be embedded in a simple cooking class. At the next cooking activity on August 12, we'll be making healthy Granola bars. There are a limited number of spaces for the cooking session so please sign up. This week we had a movie day, with Finding Nemo and lots of popcorn and fun, followed by a sing song and craft session tomorrow (Wednesday, July 24) at 10:30 a.m. Speaking of sing songs, last week's boat craft, and sing song combination was a really fantastic session. The children were so proud of the boats they made and decorated. Later, Emily playing the keyboard, Lindsay playing the fiddle and Mrs. Jeanne directing all the songs led the group of children and parents in some rousing boat themed songs. We were delighted to have Eric Nagler finish off the morning with an impromptu song accompanying himself on the fiddle and everyone joining in. Teens at Random: This week at the Pizza & Pages Book Club, the teens will be voting on the first book they'll be reading as a group! This is very exciting, since the teens themselves have asked to do this. After being presented with 4 options, the book with the most votes will be discussed at the August meeting. Next Thursday's activity will be a Yoga night with Julia Petrisor switching from Mondays so we can host a larger group. Do come out and check out this activity. Adult & Senior Programs: Rose's Book Club will be meeting at 2 p.m. this Thursday. Please bring some of the books you have been reading to share with the group. You will be delighted with the number of new books that we have for your next read! Although we are not wishing the summer away, we are starting to plan for our Sunday Library Literary Events. We have several authors confirmed and are looking to plan for several more. Those of you who have attended in the past will remember Barry Gough, Allan Wargon, Terry Fallis and Marian Press and the great social time we had after their presentations discussing their works. I think you will be equally excited by the line-up for the fall. Just check our web site for updates on all our events. Now for this week's new books.
