Shelburne welcomes new dentist Dr. Faisal Waseem

Written By Sam Odrowski

Get your smiles ready, there's a new dentist is in town.

Dr. Faisal Waseem, a locally-based dentist, has officially taken over ownership of the former Small Town Family Dental located on Main Street in Shelburne, and has rebranded the clinic – Shelburne Village Dental.

“I'm very familiar with the Shelburne area and I see an opportunity here to take a running dental practice, and make it into something special,” Dr. Waseem tells the Free Press.

Dr. Waseem has spent the last decade working as a dentist in Orangeville, joining Heritage Dental Centre in 2010. Raised in Mississauga, he studied anthropology at the University of Toronto, taught English while living abroad in Japan, and later obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at his alma mater. Dr. Waseem also trained at a hospital in Upstate New York, after graduating.

Presented with the opportunity to take over the dental clinic in January of this year, Dr. Waseem closed the deal on June 25.

Shelburne Village Dental is a comprehensive care clinic, which provides services from general and child dentistry to
implants and cosmetics.

With warm tones, and exposed brick the waiting room of Shelburne Village Dental is far removed from the typical feel of dental offices. Dr. Waseem said it was one of the factors that intrigued him.

“I think this practice has a different effect on patients and how they feel when they walk in,” said Dr. Wassem “It's not white floors and white walls, it's a quaint, relaxed setting.”

Starting his own practice, Dr. Waseem said he is hoping to invest in further technologies in the dentist industry that will benefit the local community.

“People have similar dental concerns and problems across all walks of life. A root canal, an implant, or an extraction, it's all very universal. What I'm trying to do is create a clinic where I feel patients would be treated competently and professional in Shelburne, as opposed to having to commute out,” said Dr. Waseem.

Given the circumstances of the previous owner's conviction in a sexual assault case, Dr. Waseem shared a messages with the community.

“A lot of trust has been broken and maybe lost, but here at Shelburne Village Dental we want to try to re-establish that trust.”
