The Town of Shelburne has officially appointed a new deputy clerk and committee coordinator.

Shelburne Town Council welcomed new staff member, Alice Byl, as the town's deputy clerk and committee coordinator during their meeting on May 9.

“Alice joined the town on May 2, this is her first council meeting with us,” said clerk Jennifer Willoughby. “Alice is a welcomed addition to the staff team.”

Prior to joining the Town of Shelburne, Byl worked with the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio for six years in a variety of positions. Most recently she served as Adjala-Tosorontio's deputy clerk.

“I'm very excited about this opportunity,” said Byl. “Shelburne is growing quite a bit and I'm just excited to see the growth that's happening for the municipality as well as for staff opportunities.”

The deputy clerk and committee coordinator are a newly created joint position with the town. The role was established following a service delivery review, which recommended a number of additional positions be created to expand the Town's services. The cost of the new staffing was included in the Town's 2022 budget.

“It's a good opportunity, but it's a challenge as well. As far as paving the way, I hope to be here for a while, so hopefully it'll be a role that I can develop and maintain to the satisfaction of the Town and to the management here,” said Bly.”

Through the new position, Bly will be assisting the clerk with council meetings, and will also be assisting with the agendas and minutes of committee meetings.
