Centre Dufferin District High School commencement exercises a huge success

Excitement filled the halls of Centre Dufferin District High School as Graduation ceremonies commenced on Friday, October 25th in an air of accomplishment as students returned to Shelburne from Universities and Colleges, and the workforce, a little wiser, a little taller, and a little older than when they left.

Principal Hamilton commented, “We have held commencement ceremonies at the beginning of the new school year for the students of the previous year for a very long time. One of the most positive things about conducting the ceremonies in this time frame is all the students get to see how different they are now and how differently they feel after having been away to College or University and in returning to high school, can really see how they have grown. We’re really proud of our students.”

And students seem to agree with that statement as the happiness and familiarity exhibited by the students met with a newly acquired air of maturity able to appreciate their accomplishment and the teachers who helped them achieve their goals, as smiles, laughter and resounding cheers echoed through the gymnasium during presentations.

A keen sense of pride and admiration was reflected amongst students and teachers alike as awards were presented and proud parents watched. Mayor Ed Crewson also in attendance can mark another successful milestone as Mayor of a town who can boast such accomplishment as Shelburne’s quality high school produces yet another group of wonderful young people making their way into the world of professionals, accomplishing their academic goals.

Shelburne Free Press awarded Karl Bowman with a $100 bursary for the C.D.D. H.S Business Department Award presented by Shelburne Free Press Accounts Manager/Office Executive, Deb Freeman. Bowman now attends Fanshawe College in London Ontario enrolled in the business program.

“Right now it’s a bit of a review of what we already know, but I’m really enjoying it. Thank you very much for the Award,” commented a grateful Bowman set on a bright future.

Student of the Year Award donated by Mr. George MacKay in honor of his wife, Jean MacKay, went to Steve Stewart. Congratulations to all on behalf of the Shelburne Free Press.
