First snowfall causes problems for some motorists

Grey County experienced its first blast of winter weather as snow and precipitation began falling late Wednesday night, October 23rd and into Thursday morning, October 24th.

Within a 24 hour period, Grey County OPP responded to 14 motor vehicle collisions and 4 traffic hazards calls. The vast majority of the calls were in the Municipality of Grey Highlands, where police received reports of vehicles in ditches.

Several tractor trailers (6-7) travelling northbound on Hwy. 10 were unable to crest a hill just south of Markdale due to the accumulation of snow and slush, causing traffic to back up on Hwy. 10.

An OPP cruiser was damaged after the vehicle entered a ditch and rolled on Hwy. 10 near Crawford Rd. while responding to a collision between a tractor trailer and a van on Hwy. 10 near Berkley.

Other collisions included a car vs deer and car vs mail box.

Despite all the incidents, there were no injuries reported.
