Charity ski/board day this March Break

February 26, 2014   ·   0 Comments

The otherwise private hills of The Heights of Horseshoe welcome all skiers and boarders on Saturday, March 8th for March Meltdown – the 7th Annual Subaru Ski ‘n’ Board Day. Presented once again by Davenport Subaru of Orillia, the family-oriented event will feature activities in the chalet and out on the hills. All proceeds will go to United Way Greater Simcoe County (UWGSC).

“We’ve been behind this event since it started seven years ago – it’s a terrific opportunity to enjoy winter with our families and to build our community by supporting a local charity that re-invests its revenue locally,” says Mike Davenport, owner of Davenport Subaru of Orillia. “It’s also a chance to ski at a great venue that is normally available only to club members.”

The event, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, will feature free beginner ski lessons for those aged six and older, races and games, door prizes, a silent auction and vendor fair. Ski and board rentals are available onsite. Helmets, which are optional but recommended, are not available for rent, so participants are encouraged to bring their own.

“Subaru Ski Day is always a fun day that many people put on their calendars year after year,” adds UWGSC Chief Executive Officer Alison Pickard. “This has obviously been an extraordinary season for winter sports, so if anyone hasn’t come out for this event before, the time is now!  From a fundraising perspective, last year brought in about $12,000 and we hope to top that amount this year.”

Advance tickets are $25 each (not including rentals) and are available online at TicketBreak.com or in person at Davenport Subaru of Orillia (385 West St. S., Orillia), UWGSC (County Administrative Building, Midhurst) and at The Heights of Horseshoe in Horseshoe Valley. Tickets are also available at the door on event day for $30 each. Non-skiers and non-boarders are welcome to drop by at no cost to check out the vendor fair or to accompany participants.
