Bantam LL1 win Pepsi Tournament trophy

The Pepsi Tournament trophy is back in Shelburne after the Bantam LL1 travelled to Buffalo, New York last weekend and won the championship hands down. 

The team travelled to the States for their first game on Friday the 21st against the Rochester Americans,  and won 9–0 with little contest from the American team, giving Shelburne’s goalie, Joe Woollett, a shut out defending the net like a tank.

The second game against The Pennington Blades, was more of a challenge. Shelburne’s players were now enthused with energy their defence was strong and they  held  back the Penningtons to grab their 2nd win at 6–2.

Their third game, which qualified them for the championship against The Hamburg Maple Leafs, had a slow start, but the Leafs first goal spurred on Shelburne to get their turbo in action. Skill and speed won the day for the Bantams with a  7–3 win.

The hardest and most tiring game was for the championship against Canada’s own Oro Thunder. Having played this team during the regular season, Shelburne knew the opposing team tactics and fighting hard, they won the cup by securing their winning goal in the third period in the last 4 minutes with a win of 4–3.  With screams and cheers from the proud parents in the stands, Bantam won the Pepsi cup, hands-down.

It was a long tiring weekend but worth he wait, the Pepsi Cup comes back to Canada and will be displayed in the Shelburne arena.

The team were missing one very important player, Freddie Dickson who as unable to make  the trip. The team line-up from left front is: Kyle Burke, Emily Gordanier, Jacob Berardi, Wade Sawyer, Jacob Furtado, Goalie Joe Woollett, bench staff, Lee Bruce, & John Roberto, Sean Appleton, Bryson Landriaut, Liam McCleod, Porter Cavey, Tyler Fournier, Sawyer Kirsten, Col Timmins, John Appleton and proud coach Shawn Cavey.
