Reel Youth Film Festival coming to Shelburne

March 26, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Shelburne’s got talent! Astounding to some is the very idea Shelburne youth might have something to offer a film festival. Be prepared to be astounded and enamoured as the Showcase screening date is Saturday, March 29th at 7 p.m. at Grace Tipling Hall.

The event is sponsored by Soaring Heart Wellness and as it is a not-for-profit fundraiser, with all proceeds benefiting local youth charity. Tickets are $7 for youth, (13 and under) $10 for adults, and $7 for seniors. Advance tickets, submission forms, and information is available at Soaring Hearts Wellness (tickets will be available at the door as well).

The Reel Youth Film Festival is a non-profit organization providing an opportunity for those 19 years and younger to creatively express themselves through short film. This festival tours Canada and the world collecting films, bringing the best youth film making today to our communities.

Having produced over 4,000 films in the last nine years, the Reel Youth Film Festival also brings to light the issues that the young film makers feel strongly about. From stop motion animation to video production, music videos, intergenerational and photography programs, Reel Youth can help and guide young people with their multi-talented, specially trained youth facilitators and the end result is a positive message, and positive experience for both young directors and audiences alike.

Important to owners of Soaring Heart Wellness, Ellen Brakel and Joey Lemieux is this message, “Shelburne is a great place to live and though we are a small town, there is a lot happening here. It’s great to let the youth of our community know they have an outlet, a way to express themselves. We just need to get the word out to everyone that events like the film festival are happening. It will be great when more are involved.”

One way to support the Brakel’s ongoing dedication to the youth of Shelburne is to attend the Showcase which promises to be inspiring, informative, and might even expose the next David Cronenberg, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, or Quentin Tarantino! Shelburne may have to invest in a red carpet of our very own!
