Scotiabank presents Glenbrook Elementary with $5,000

Shelburne's Glenbrook Elementary School is fairly new to the community and needed to raise money for three projects in particular: a new park, computers, and an anti-bullying program.

With fundraising incentive from Scotiabank, located on First St. in Orangeville, who promised a matching program with the school, Glenbrook's staff and students raised $5,000 with a Dance-A-Thon fundraising, held on February 14th.  The wildly successful event had students dancing with a tremendous amount of spirit, and now the school is proud to announce they have collectively raised $10,000!

“The school board provided many things but there were a few things not supplied,” explained Linda Cruikshank, Chair of the Parent's School Council. “We most recently had a Beach Bash Dance-A-Thon, that the kids DJ'd. Thirty-five prizes were up for grabs and kids had the chance to throw a pie into the principals face. It was a lot of fun.”

“We met our goal for 30 computers for our computer lab, our anti-bullying program is in place and the playground plans are in the works. The whole experience has been fabulous building school spirit for the kids,” explained Cruikshank.

Tawnya Hunt, Scotiabank Customer Service Representative and Manager of Customer Service Cathy Lyon were on hand March 21st to present the check to Glenbrook Elementary School, Parents Council and students.

Many parents on the parent council take part in this huge undertaking making it the success it is. While all three programs are well underway, there are still more funds needed for the playground and if you would like to donate or help out, call Glenbrook Elementary 519 925-0580 and leave a message on the school council mailbox, ext. 330.
