Raising money and meeting Autism Service Dogs at Shelburne Town Pharmacy

June 19, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Owners of Shelburne Town Pharmacy, Sanjay and Shalini Lekhi are pleased to announce that their fund raising efforts to help 8 year old local girl, Taylor Harris in her quest to raise money for herself and four others to purchase Autism Service Dogs is a resounding success thus far. Between the two events held on March 8th, and June 15th, the Lekhi’s report having raised $417.50 bringing Taylor’s dream of owning her very own service dog that much closer.

On the second fund raising event of June 15th, two autism service dogs were present at Shelburne Town Pharmacy, allowing the public to see the benefits service dogs can be to a child and also allow Taylor to practice commands with 18 month old, chocolate Labrador and service dog, Hudson.

For those children who are runners, service dogs can save lives, full stop. The emotional support Autism Service Dogs can provide can mean the difference between a child being able to take part in school activities or not.

The stability Autism Service Dogs provide to a child somewhere on the spectrum can instill a confidence of safety and security as the dogs are trustworthy and reliable friends, providing empathy during difficult times and affection when needed.

“I think Taylor’s efforts to raise money for Autism Service Dogs for herself and others is great,” commented Doug Chives of Autism Service Dogs, “These kids amaze me.”

With 10 years of training Autism Service Dogs, Chives has personally witnessed the benefits and the staggering positive difference these dogs make in a child’s life.

“Our dogs are home dogs. Trainers train eight week old puppies in our homes for two years. Each dog is valued at $18,000,” commented Chives making Taylor Harris one very ambitious and compassionate young lady in her attempt to help others.

The Lekhi’s thank the community for helping them help Taylor Harris in her noble cause to help kids living with Autism be safe with the help and companionship of an Autism Service Dog.

Harris who lives with Autism feels safe and secure in Hudson’s company where she may otherwise feel nervous and anxious in a crowd without him. It’s this security and comfort Harris wishes for herself and four others as she endeavors to raise money to purchase Autism Service Dogs during a fund raising event held on Sunday, June 15th at Shelburne Town Pharmacy.
