Serious assault leaves young female in critical condition – lone male suspect in custody

In the evening hours of Sunday July 27th the Shelburne Police Service and Dufferin County Paramedic Services responded to a 9-1-1 call when some pedestrians found a young girl with serious injuries. She was located in the area of Cedar Street and Susan Street in Shelburne.

When emergency personnel arrived the female was clearly suffering from severe trauma. She was rushed first to Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, then to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto in critical life threatening condition. The investigation revealed that she was assaulted in a wooded area Cedar Street and Maple Heights. The investigation also revealed that there was a lone male adult responsible for this incident.

The 19 year old male suspect was taken into custody within two hours of the 9-1-1 call. The accused male remains in custody currently facing a charge of aggravated assault. The investigation into this incident remains intensive and ongoing. Due to the on-going investigation, further details are not being released at this time, including the names of any involved parties. However the Shelburne Police Service are assuring the public that the lone suspect is in custody.

The Shelburne Police Service is appealing to the public to come forward with any information they may have in regards to this incident. Police are also appealing to all residents in the Cedar Street and Maple Heights area of town to check their properties for anything suspicious or out of place. Police request that anything found is not touched or disturbed if at all possible before police are notified and attend the residence.
