Branch Manager of RBC Shelburne, Josie Green is passionate about helping people protect themselves commenting, “We invite people to bring questions and if we don't know the answers, we'll find the answers, and we'll follow up even after the session. We're that committed.” Constable Paul Neumann, Stutz, Brown & Self as well as the RBC staff will be on hand offering information, and taking questions on a variety of topics covering telemarketing scams, pyramid scams, computer scams via e-mail, Power of Attorney, romance scams, checks for over payment and more. After reading the statistics surrounding the number of those scammed annually, Green was completely shocked, prompting her to jump into action creating the information session in an attempt to protect the residents of Shelburne. “I was completely shocked to read that in 2013 there were 44, 221 complaints, 12,851 victims, and $53,178,128.12 loss to Mass Marketing Fraud and even more surprising than that was to come to the realization that $53 million dollars lost represented only five per cent of the total number of actual victims! I had to do something!” commented Green. Green noted that seniors are always a target for fraudsters and she is committed to do anything she and her staff can do to help prevent what could be the most financially devastating day in a person's life by providing the information required to avoid being scammed. “Fraudsters are getting smarter and always finding new ways to scam. It could be anyone of any age. Business owners, regular citizens, seniors, the information is so relevant. It really doesn't matter who you are, Fraudsters are predators so we need to bring advise and raise awareness to this important issue,” explained Green. The RBC requests that people RSVP in order to help them plan ahead but promise not to refuse anyone who simply wishes to attend and arrives in time. Green asks people to reach out to her by phone at 519 925-2885 and e-mail at josie.green@rbc.com to RSVP for this vitally important information session.
