Running a red leads to seven charges

During the evening of Thursday November 6th a Shelburne police officer observed a red Ford Escort run a red light at Main Street and Owen Street. The vehicle was pulled over by the officer and the resulting investigation revealed many more serious problems.
It was learned that the plates were not registered to the vehicle, the driver's licence was under suspension for prior offences, there was no insurance on the car, a quantity of marijuana was seized, and the driver was on probation with court conditions for recent criminal convictions.
The driver, 52 year old Allen Snels of Glanbrook was arrested at the scene and returned to the police station. Snels was later released on a promise to appear with a court date in early December.
Snels was charged with failing seven charges including failing to stop at a red light, using plates not authorized, driving while under suspension, no insurance, possession of a controlled substance, and 2 counts of breach of probation.
If anyone has any information in relation to this case or any other criminal activity, they are encouraged to contact the Shelburne Police Service at 519 925-3312 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com
