Carving pumpkins, helping the food bank

Under the direction of Centre Dufferin District High School teacher, Matt Rush, students raised money by purchasing pumpkins to carve in the hopes of winning a Pumpkin Carving Contest. Turning the Halloween season into a reason for giving is forward thinking that gets results. “My thoughts were surrounding Thanksgiving and I hoped students would think about people who need the food bank. What will those people do after Thanksgiving?” said Rush. A thought that came to fruition with the help of students proved a huge success as the Shepherd's Cupboard, Shelburne's local food bank located at the Mel Lloyd Centre will receive approximately $220 dollars. If you would like to follow Rush and the C.D.D.H.S students' fine example of being proud citizens, contact Volunteer Co-ordinator, Ardith Dunlop at the Shepherd's Cupboard at 519 925-2600, or e-mail abidingplaceministries@sympatico.ca.
