Carving pumpkins, helping the food bankUnder the direction of Centre Dufferin District High School teacher, Matt Rush, students raised money by purchasing pumpkins to carve in the hopes of winning a Pumpkin Carving Contest. Turning the Halloween season into a reason for giving is forward thinking that gets results. “My thoughts were surrounding Thanksgiving and I hoped students would think about people who need the food bank. What will those people do after Thanksgiving?” said Rush. A thought that came to fruition with the help of students proved a huge success as the Shepherd's Cupboard, Shelburne's local food bank located at the Mel Lloyd Centre will receive approximately $220 dollars. If you would like to follow Rush and the C.D.D.H.S students' fine example of being proud citizens, contact Volunteer Co-ordinator, Ardith Dunlop at the Shepherd's Cupboard at 519 925-2600, or e-mail abidingplaceministries@sympatico.ca.
