Her painting graced the cover of Trinity United Church's bulletin at Remembrance Day service on November 9th. Poppies will forever be connected to Remembrance Day by the classic poem “In Flanders Fields” by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae composed at the front after a friend was killed during the battle of Ypres in Belgium. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead: Short days ago, We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved: and now we lie In Flanders fields! Take up our quarrel with the foe To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch: be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die, We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields Photo Marni Walsh --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2014-11-12 21:00:33 Post date GMT: 2014-11-13 02:00:33 Post modified date: 2014-11-19 11:14:05 Post modified date GMT: 2014-11-19 16:14:05 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
