Giant Tiger celebrates grand re–opening

In the very early hours of Saturday, December 6th, Shelburnites began gathering at Giant Tiger Plaza, some arriving as early as 5 a.m. to secure their place in line as Giant Tiger opened its doors in a grand re-opening ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of expansion renovations.
Shelburnites, clearly excited by Giant Tiger's promise to give the first 50 customers through the door a $50 gift card, waited to get in patiently even though the crowd exceeded expectations (as over 100 people attended) making Shelburne Mayor Ken Bennington's first ribbon cutting ceremony and unprecedented historical success.
As Shelburne's CAO John Telfer and EDC's Steve Bowles held the long yellow ribbon, Mayor Bennington, surrounded by Giant Tiger staff, and owners Andrew and Diana Lewis, cut the ribbon marking Giant Tiger's expansion renovation a success.
In addition to the new look, continued great quality and excellent prices, Giant Tiger has expanded its food and grocery section.
More than ever, GT is your one stop shop – serving Shelburne better the local store has added third party gift cards, scratch lottery tickets and stamps.
Worth noting, Giant Tiger comes from humble beginnings in 1961 when the first store opened its doors in Ottawa with the winning philosophy of keeping the operation costs low, sell large volumes at everyday low prices daily and this simple idea allowed the store to grow to over 200 stores.
The concept of franchising occurred in 1968 and that concept combined with Giant Tiger's winning philosophy encouraged franchisee owners to become members of their communities in a big way, so much so that in 2013, Giant Tiger donated $2 million dollars to local charities and associations across Canada.
Shelburne Giant Tiger store owners, Andrew and Diana Lewis are so pleased with their renovation undertaking. “It's exciting! Definitely the town needed and wanted it. We're so happy to provide additional services,.”
Mayor Bennington, summed up the occasion by saying, “Today is a good day for Shelburne! Anytime we can open a new business in our community is a proud day.”
For those who received a $50 gift card, it was indeed a good day, but for those who didn't, and eagerly awaited entry into the renovated and modern Giant Tiger, it was still a good day – and clearly all about the money they saved while purchasing quality items.
