Royals hockey team win over Guelph CVI

The Centre Dufferin District Royals hockey team left the ice with a 3–2 win over Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute on Tuesday, December 2, at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne.
The Royals turned out a good performance in their sixth game of the Division 4/10 regular season.
After playing a scoreless first period, the teams returned to the ice and the Royals went ahead on a goal from Brandon Long when he took the feed from across the crease to catch the Guelph goalie out of position.
Guelph tied the game just two minutes later.
Royals forward Stephen Falls got the go ahead goal for Shelburne when he took the shot to the top right corner of the Guelph net.
Against the GCVI squad tied the game with just :48 seconds left on the clock in the second period to make it a 20 minute game to decide the winner.
Shelburne forward Evan Spencer got the winner in the third period when he made a slick move around the front of the Guelph net and picked his spot for the goal.
“Our systems are starting to come together,” said coach Ryan Stewart after Tuesday's game. “Between the first and second period we talked about getting more pucks on net.”
The team did a lot of fancy work during the first period but weren't getting many shots on net. They corrected that when they came out for the second frame.
“That fist goal was from our third line. They made a nice tick-tack-toe play. That was all three lines that scored. We got one from each line. We've been working a lot on angling in practice, and they could see it was working today. A win always re-enforces that we are doing things well,” Stewart said.
The Royals were back on the ice the following day when they travelled to Palmerston to take on Norwell District Secondary School.
This time the Royals came up short taking an 8–3 loss who are undefeated for the season.
The Royals will be back on home ice this Tuesday (Dec. 16) to host Erin at the CDRC.
Game time is 2:00 p.m.
