Public Health expands ways families can discuss positive parentingWellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is launching its popular free KIDS LINE phone service on Twitter beginning Dec. 1, 2014. The new @KIDSLINEOnline Twitter account will allow Public Health Nurses to engage online with local parents to share positive parenting tips, support, advice and strategies in a meaningful and interactive way. The @KIDSLINEOnline Twitter account will be staffed by a team of five Public Health Nurses who will provide information around issues like pregnancy, child growth and development, parenting strategies and preventing illness. Nurses will also connect local parents with support programs and services based on individual family needs. The @KIDSLINEOnline Twitter account will be staffed Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Public Health works with local families, health professionals, educators and community partners so that all residents have access to free positive parenting tips, strategies, advice and services,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, CEO and Medical Officer of Health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health. “Twitter is another way to connect with our knowledgeable team of Public Health Nurses.” Public Health has been operating a parenting support phone line for families in Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph for over a decade. Annually, Public Health receives over 4000 calls from parents and health care professionals. Public Health nurses on KIDS LINE know local resources and can connect families with the community support they need.
