OPP charge driver, speeding twice the legal limit

On Saturday March 21, 2015 Dufferin OPP officers were conducting Moving Radar enforcement on Dufferin County Rd. #17 in Melancthon Township. They observed an eastbound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked at 162 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone which is twice the legal speed limit.
A traffic stop was conducted and an 18 year old male driver from Amaranth was charged with Race Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. His driver's license and vehicle were seized for 7 days.
The driver will appear in Orangeville Court at a later date to answer to the charge. This incident is concerning because it occurred in later part of the local distracted driving campaign which was well publicized.
