Title: Royals hockey team ace tournament

 The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals boys junior hockey team travelled to Erin on Tuesday, March 31, to compete in a collegiate tournament with team from around the region.
The squad won all three of their games and finished in the top spot to win the tournament.
In game one, the team played a scoreless first period against Norwell District S.S.
After dropping the first goal on a powerplay, Evan Spencer evened the score with an assist from Darrin Janke.
The Royals went ahead on three unanswered goals in the third period.
CDDHS's Zack Trott scored on an unassisted effort early in the period. Spencer picked up his second of the game on an assist from Jackson Nasato and Jesse Sterling.
Sam Willoughby capped the first game win scoring on the short side on an assit from Alex Beam.
Goalie Curtis Latter got the win in net for the Royals.
Game two of the tournament pitted the Royals against Westside Secondary School Thunder from Orangeville.
Evan Spencer opened the scoring in game two with a wrap around early in the first frame.
Westside tied the game at one, but Royals' Nasato got the go ahead goal to lead the first period.
Westside battled back with two goals in the second period but the Royals turned it up a notch scoring six more times from Spencer, Nasato and Sterling with singles from Kyle Tomlinson, Scott Decker and Mitchell Skilton to end the game 9–5.
Jackson Dupre earned the win between the pipes.
Game three against Erin District started with a Royals opening goal from Aaron Fuller on a shot from the point in the first period.
Erin fought back and tied the game at one less than two minutes later.
Joe Freeman-Woollett came up big in net for Centre Dufferin in the second to best the solid play of Riley Buttler in the Erin net as each team exchanged excellent scoring opportunities before Jesse Sterling scored late in the second on an outstanding individual effort on the penalty kill.
Matt Armstrong opened the scoring in the third for Centre Dufferin with a point shot assisted by Dakota Prentice and Spencer.
Nasato sealed the 4–1 Royals win on a great feed from Jesse Stirling.
The Royals got stronger in each game as both their offensive and defensive prowess improved during each game.
The Royals will again be on the ice for another tournament at the University of Guelph on Tuesday, April 7–8, in Guelph.
