Skate Canada Shelburne wraps up another year

Skate Canada Shelburne held their 64th annual carnival on Friday March 27, titled “Colours of the Rainbow” signalling the end of another skating season.
Skaters of all ages participated in the end of year gala to highlight their accomplishments. All year the skaters learn skills by certified coach's as outlined by Skate Canada. These programs are based on long-term athlete development model (LTAD) which is designed to assist coaches, parents, volunteers and administrators create an environment that allows skaters to fully develop and reach their potential in the sport, regardless of whether their goals are recreational or competitive in nature. Throughout the season many of the skaters will test their skill and compete at local competitions. With the highlight for most of them being the year end carnival.
The annual carnival takes months of preparations by the parent volunteers. Getting groups ready, picking a theme and music to taking every skaters measurements to order each of them costumes that co-ordinate with the songs they skate to. Then there is the arena preparation of decorating the lobby and the boards around the ice. This year LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) donated most of the brightly coloured decorations that adorned the arena with many of them being made by their children. A wonderful edition to this years show and a great way to see local clubs helping one another.
Subsequently on Wednesday April 1 Skate Canada Shelburne held their Annual General Meeting. With last years minutes and all reports being read and passed by all members in attendance the new board was voted in. The 2015 board is as follows; President Susan Stinson Wallace, Vice President Bill McCutcheon, Treasurer Karen Dobson, Secretary Jennifer Moore, Members at Large, Christine Donaldson, Ailine O'Neill, Julia Bradner, Dawna Findlay, Laura Camilleri and Mark Camilleri with one member at large position being left open at this time.
