10,000 Eggs draw hundreds to Town Easter Event

The promise of a chance to find even one of the 10,000 chocolate eggs, donated by John's No Fills in Shelburne, at the Town's Easter Egg Hunt drew over 300 area children to the Centre Dufferin Recreation (CDRC) Complex April 4th. It was the second successful year for the Hunt, which has already become a highly anticipated annual event.
Organized by Town of Shelburne's Special Events Coordinator Shawnette Crouse, the exciting event invited area kids from the ages of 1-12 to bring their Easter baskets and join in the joy of the Hunt. The big day came with a sunny blue sky to encourage little ones and parents past the chilly temperatures that were enhanced by a bitter cold wind blowing around the CDRC Saturday afternoon. At 1:30 pm the Hunt began with hundreds of tiny hands searching through the piles of fresh straw, which had been strewn outside the arena doors, in hope of finding tiny treats, or better yet one of 12 golden eggs. The finders of the golden eggs received beautiful baskets of Easter goodies filled to the brim with products from Shelburne's NoFrills and Giant Tiger, Boston Pizza, Subway, Mac's Milk, Ganz Toys and Scholastic Books.
The Shelburne Kinettes were on hand to provide some much appreciated warmth with hot hamburgers fresh off the grill. Junior Schooner Fast Ball provided eggs treats with registration and Small Town Dental handed out eggs and coins for an onsite game for the kids before and after the Hunt. Small Town Dental was also the sponsors for the cost of supplies for a face painter and balloon artist from Party Face, local artists who donated their talents to the event. Despite the cold, kids lined up for balloon twisting and all manner of colourful face designs, filling the arena grounds with painted puppies and Easter bunnies.
Live entertainment was presented on the outdoor stage by the musical youth from L.P. Stage Productions. The young actors belonged to the casts for the company's upcoming shows at Grace Tipling Hall: The Hobbit at the end of April and Into the Woods at the end of May. The group was back at the Town event by popular demand after their exhilarating performance at Shelbrrr Fest in February. Inside the arena, The Marketing Mommas presented their Spring Fling Trade Show which included a raffle with proceeds going to local Autism services.
The central figure, and greatest source of warmth at the event, was of course, none other than the Easter Bunny himself. Standing at over six feet from the bottom of his paws to the top of his ears, his soft white fur was an inviting place for children to wrap their arms around on the chilly day. The philanthropic bunny was there at the special request of his close friend Councillor Dan Sample, to make sure that every child at the event had a fun time. Councillors and Town Staff pitched in with the same intention, sending over 300 kids home with their mouths full of chocolate and their minds full of memories of another great Easter weekend in Shelburne.
