Honeywood hockey moms to skate in support of Headwaters

Members of the Jennifer Widbur Memorial Hockey Tournament will take to the ice for the 8th year. The annual event will be held this year on April 10 and 11, 2014, at the Honeywood Hockey Arena. This year, several teams of women hockey players raised pledges to compete in the fun-filled tournament which also includes a silent auction.
All proceeds from this magnificent event will be directed to Ambulatory Care expansion at Headwaters Health Care Centre which will allow for an increase in capacity for the oncology (chemotherapy) unit.
“Our community has been fantastic over the past years since the tournament began in 2008,” said Mike deLaat, the late Jennifer Widbur's husband and a member of the tournament's organizing executive. “I am deeply moved each and every year by how our community comes together in Jennifer's memory—be it through financial support, gifts of time, or by participating in hockey. It is absolutely wonderful to be a part of this event.”
Last year's hockey tournament raised a total of $50,000 for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment to diagnose and treat cancer at Headwaters Health Care Centre. Since the Honeywood Hockey Moms have begun donating to Headwaters Health Care Foundation, the Jennifer Widbur Memorial Tournament has raised $268,000 for Headwaters Health Care Centre.
