Live painting event planned for inaugural Farmers’ Market

The Shelburne Town Hall Gallery committee is busy planning an exciting line-up of exhibits and events for summer, 2015.
The Gallery, located inside Shelburne Town Hall (upstairs), is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and exhibits a wide variety of original artworks, created mostly by local artists.
Starting next week, a new exhibit will be hung at the Gallery, featuring a variety of unique pieces.
An opening reception time has yet to be determined.
A call to artists is still in effect, for those interested in displaying, or selling their artwork in the next exhibit, which runs until May27th.
Framed pieces can be delivered to the Gallery (through reception) up until next Friday, May 1st. A $5/registration per piece is in effect (or $20/5 pieces). These charges cover gallery maintenance costs and exhibit promotions.
Artists interested in selling their art through the Gallery may also do so for a minimal commission fee, however artists who do not wish to part with their work can remain on “display only”.
The previous exhibit, which ran from January 15 until April 2, was a first ever show featuring two and three dimensional works from senior visual arts students Centre Dufferin District High School.
Upcoming events/exhibits for 2015:
• To celebrate the opening of the Shelburne Farmers' Market, Town Hall Gallery volunteer committee members are planning the 1st Annual ‘Brush with Spring'.
In front of an audience, artists will paint their version of a still life display – created using farm-fresh vegetables grown right here in Shelburne.
Artists will be supplied with an easel, paints (five colours), brushes and a blank canvas for a registration fee of $5. Participants will have one hour to finish their painting, which will then be taken to Town Hall for display, and judging by public ballot. There are 48 total spots available in this competition, and registration forms will be made available shortly through: www.shelburnefreepress.ca and www.townofshelburne.on.ca
Prizes will be awarded in two categories: Adult (14 and over) and Junior (13 and under).
This event is sponsored by: The Shelburne Farmers' Market, Barn Owl Woodworks, the Shelburne Free Press and other community-minded individuals.
Paintings will remain on display at Town Hall Gallery for one month, where artists will be able to sell their paintings or leave them on display until the end of the exhibit.
More event information will be made available shortly through the above mentioned websites. You can also watch the Free Press for details.
• In conjunction with the 65th Anniversary of the Canadian Old Time Fiddle Championship (Fiddleville) the Town Hall Gallery committee is also planning a special exhibit featuring ‘All Things Fiddle'. The event will run from mid-July until mid-August.
Committee members are hoping to include everything from historical artifacts, to modern artistic interpretations of the fiddle and the people who love them. More details to follow.
“We invite the public to drop into the Shelburne Town Hall and enjoy the art work on displays,” said Town Hall Gallery chair, Buffett. “We're really excited about our upcoming events and we hope the planned exhibits will help both emerging and established artists from our community.”
Art in the Gallery ranges in price from $100 to $5000. Even if you're not in the market for new artwork, be sure to check out the Town Hall Gallery and support our local artists with your encouragement...and don't forget to tell a friend or an artist about these local opportunities!
