The Making of a KingYouth for Christ will present a dinner theatre production of “The Making of a King,” an original creation written by Executive Director Ann McCallum, on May 2nd at the Mel Lloyd Centre in Shelburne. The productions are put on by the Orangeville Campus Life drama team, made up of high school aged youth seen here in the photo. A roast beef dinner catered by Mary Rideout will be served buffet style at 6 pm and include roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, buns, dessert, coffee or tea. Ann McCallum says, “We create our own plays so that every youth who wants to participate can have a part, regardless of their ability, and they can adapt the lines to their own language without worrying about royalties. The youth practice for several months before the dinner theatre's production, which are held in most of our 13 satellites as fundraisers for the Door Youth Centre in each community”. This play is set in the 1800's, in the mythical country of Genovia, and it is about a young prince who is almost duped into marriage through a conniving and unscrupulous princess of a neighbouring kingdom.” The annual dinner theatre production is one of the biggest fundraisers in support of “The Door” which serves over 90 local youth in Shelburne with after school programs for grades 5–8 on Thursdays and ages 13–18 Fridays, summer activities, and a boys' club and a girls' club. Kids also have the chance to participate in Project Serve allowing them to experience service and effect positive change in their local community and worldwide. Tickets, which include dinner and the show, are $24 each with a $10 tax receipt. The dinner theatre is in the auditorium at the Mel Lloyd Centre, entrance “C”.
