Local organic heirloom seeds and seedlings for sale this Saturday

After one of the coldest winters on record, there is no better way to welcome spring then to start planting seeds! Everdale is so thrilled to help usher in the season by hosting Seedy Saturday again – an opportunity for gardeners and families to visit Everdale farm and buy organic and heirloom seeds and transplants for their vegetable garden.
Everdale's Seedy Saturday is one of many events run nationwide and organized in partnership with Seeds of Diversity. The purpose of Seedy Saturdays is to bring together people interested in gardening and our rich agricultural heritage through the power of sharing seeds and growing food. All seeds and seedlings sold at Everdale's Seedy Saturday come from local vendors and are either certified organic, or are non-genetically modified and grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides.
“It's an opportunity for community members to support their local seed growers, learn about gardening and seed-saving, and visit an organic farm”, explains Aabir Dey, Program Coordinator for The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security. Everdale is an organic farm and learning centre that is also the regional hub of the Bauta initiative, a national seed-saving project led by USC Canada and Seeds of Diversity. “We are supporting numerous seed-saving efforts across the province, and hosting a Seedy Saturday is our opportunity to showcase some of the great regional seed producers we work with”.
Not only can folks buy seeds and plants, they can swap saved seeds with others. Gardeners are encouraged to trade the best seeds from their garden at the seed exchange table and pick up some new varieties to try this year. Seedy Saturday will be held on Saturday, May 2nd from 1pm to 4pm at Everdale, 5812 6th Line, Hillsburgh. Admission is free so come on out to the farm and enjoy the sunshine! For more information about Seedy Saturday, contact Aabir Dey at 519 855-4859 ext. 103 or aabir.dey@everdale.org. Visit www.everdale.org for the full schedule of activities. This is one of the last Seedy Saturdays of the year, so don't miss it!
