The Market will run weekly on Thursday afternoons from 3–7 p.m., until October 8th. Organized by the Shelburne BIA, the market is full to vendor capacity – with 51 per cent of its vendors selling fresh, locally grown produce – and there is even a waiting list for those interested in taking part in this shop local/eat local program in the future. Four confirmed entertainers are also taking part in opening day, offering a range of talents from acoustic guitar, to face painting. Lead organizer, Joey Lemieux, owner of Soaring Heart Wellness, is excited for the market opening next week. “It'll be a great community event, especially for new residents to meet other locals,” said Lemieux. “Of course there will also be a ton of healthy foods available for purchase, and the chance to meet the farmer who grew it.” This “great community meeting spot” will also feature a one-time live art event. At the inaugural Market, the Town Hall Gallery challenges residents to register for $5, and create a painting, with supplied materials courtesy of Besley Farms, of fresh veggies. The paintings will then be hung at Town Hall for public judging, starting June 12 – coinciding with the Pan Am Torch Relay. Forms for the art competition can be pick-up at Town Hall. Registration in advance of the event is ideal. At the Shelburne Farmers' Market, you'll find everything you need to make dinner and then pamper yourself pretty – meat, veggies, fruits, berries, teas, syrup, honey, prepared meals, baked goods, and natural beauty products – it's all there. Proceeds from the Farmers' Market (vendor registration fees) will be put back into the community, towards beautification and improvements to the downtown core. “We are still on the lookout for entertainers and buskers to contribute to the uniqueness of our Market going forward,” said Lemieux. “We are also offering free booths to local not-for-profit organizations in the hopes that they will take part in promoting Shelburne and themselves at the same time.” There hasn't been a farmers' market in Shelburne proper in almost a decade. The Shelburne Farmers' Market will be located on First Avenue West in front of the Trinity United Church at the corner of Owen Sound St. and First Avenue West. See you at the Market Shelburne!
