Shelburne Police promoting safe cycling and helmet use

Every year from late April to July 1st, Shelburne Police hands out a lot of tickets to children and young teens riding bicycles in town.
These tickets however aren't getting our young cyclists into trouble, but rather they are an entry into a draw to win a brand new bike.
Dufferin Mutual Insurance is sponsoring this youth bicycle safety event by providing two mountain bikes that will be raffled off at the Canada Day Celebrations at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex (Shelburne Arena) on July 1st. There will be a boy's and a girl's bike waiting to be claimed!
How do you get one of these tickets and a chance to win a new bike? Officers will be watching for young cyclists riding safely and with a helmet properly attached. The police officer will stop and talk with you and enter your name into the draw for a new bike.
Cycling around town is a great way for our youth to get around and stay active. But it is everyone's responsibility to keep them safe.
The Shelburne Police wants to remind drivers to slow down, pay attention and remember that young cyclists aren't always predictable. They also are reminding parents to review safe cycling skills with their children and insist that they wear helmets.
