Title: Indigenous Women Rising

 Kairos Dufferin Chair Jim Lindsay with First Nations dancer Nicole Jones at the “Indigenous Women Rising Symposium” presented by the Dufferin County Cultural Resource Centre at Westside Secondary School in Orangeville on May 23rd. The event featured singing, sacred spirit dancers, drumming, traditional food and key note speaker Dr. Lynn Gehl who spoke to the audience about “Learning Canada's History Through Wampum Diplomacy.” The event held special significance as the final meeting of the “Truth and Reconciliation” taskforce takes place in Ottawa this month; members representing Dufferin Kairos' social justice group will be attending. The Orangeville symposium was a fundraiser for the Honouring Youth Pow Wow taking place June 19th to 21st at Island Lake Conservation Area – a first for this community.
