CDDHS students head to Europe

It's a moment in history for secondary students from Dufferin County as they leave on their Digital History/Battlefield Tour for Europe on Monday June 1st. Fifteen students left on the Tour including four from Westside Secondary School, four from Orangeville District Secondary School and eight from Centre Dufferin District High School in Shelburne. The group departed from Orangeville with 12 adults accompanying them on the Tour including honoured Veteran Cpl. Bill Power. CDDHS History teacher Neil Orford says the Dufferin Youth will be, “Official Youth Ambassadors at three Ceremonies taking place on June 6th and 7th at the Juno Beach Centre, the Canadian War Cemetery at Beny Sur Mer, and at Abbaye Ardenne where twenty Canadian soldiers were executed and buried by the Nazis after D-Day.” As is the tradition, the students will be presenting their Veteran Biographies and unveiling 25 commemorative bricks, honouring mostly Dufferin Veterans, at the Juno Beach Centre. Veteran Jack Mason, 92, (centre front row in the photo) who flew on D-Day, came to bid the students farewell on their journey.
