HCIA Project Lead Shirley Boxem says each resident's feedback “is unique and vital for this effort.” The Community Well-Being survey centres on the question of “What is important to you in your community?” and “What would you like to see more or less of?” The survey will confirm existing, or uncover new, priorities in the region which drive HCIA activities. Boxem says, “The work is a follow up to the 2008 Citizen Survey and 2011 Headwaters Community Well-Being Report that generated a snapshot of important aspects of community life based upon what citizens said they valued most.” HCIA used feedback from that report to identify the specific areas for shared action that they have been helping to advance ever since, including Headwaters trails & active transportation; Headwaters food & farming; strengthening the not-for-profit sector; and rural transportation options. Since its inception in 2004, HCIA has facilitated community conversations on rising issues and supported projects that enhance life in the Headwaters area in order to co-ordinate an effective response. Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA) approach to issues facing the community includes the philosophy: “Doing things as we have always done them will not enable us to innovate and find new solutions to long-standing issues.” Results from the new survey will be used by HCIA to help build consensus on the next priorities for shared action within our region. The survey will be active until June 30 2015. Those who complete the survey and provide HCIA with contact information, will have their name entered into a draw for a $100 gift certificate at The Globe Restaurant in Rosemont or Mrs. Mitchell's Restaurant in Violet Hill. There are two Cineplex movie packages for the youth respondents to win too!
