Liberal Party of Canada presents plans for real change, CrewsonThis week, Liberal Party of Canada Leader Justin Trudeau presented a plan for real change that will establish openness and transparency in government. “After a decade of Stephen Harper, Canadians' faith in government has never been lower,” said Liberal candidate Ed Crewson. “People in Dufferin-Caledon know that Ottawa is broken, and we need a government that trusts Canadians and deserves the trust of Canadians. That is why Liberals have a sweeping agenda to change how government works.” The Liberal plan will raise the bar on openness and accountability by changing the way government works. It will implement measures that include: making evidence-based decisions on programs and policies; giving Canadians a voice in Ottawa by allowing more independence for Members of Parliament, and ending partisanship in the Senate; requiring that government data and information is open by default; ensuring open and fair elections, through a national dialogue on electoral reform, and banning partisan government advertising; and improving the quality and speed with which Canadians access and receive government services, as well as including an equal number of women and men in a Liberal Cabinet. Current Conservative MP David Tilson has spent over $425,000.00 on advertising and householder printing since elected in 2004. This figure doesn't cover the recent orgy of pre-election materials being produced by Tilson since January 1, 2015 which are yet to be released. Dufferin-Caledon residents are right to question the priorities of a government that would rather spend money on partisan advertising, rather than helping the people they are elected to serve. “Many Canadians have grown skeptical of our democracy – they wonder if their vote really makes a difference,” said Crewson. “They deserve better. Our plan for real change will modernize how our government works, so that it better reflects the people it is meant to serve: Canadians.” |
