Cubs win over Creemore in quick seven innings

It was a huge hit over the left field fence in the fourth inning by Mansfield Cub's Devon Caldwell that turned Wednesday (June 10) night's game in favour of the Cubs over the Creemore Barons in the Cubs when the two-run homer gave Mansifeld a 4–3 lead.
The Cubs were down by three runs at the start of the fourth inning when Brad Pendleton hit deep to centre field for a double that put a man on second and third.
Next at bat, Emerson Pendleton cracked a short hit that had him thrown out at first but allowed a runner to cross home plate for the first Cubs run of the night.
Jess Ragazzon followed up with a well placed hit right through the hole between first and second base to drive in the second Cubs run.
Caldwell's home run placed the Cubs in the lead.
The remaining three innings saw little action offensively with neither team really threatening on base, but doing some good defensive work that stopped any movement in the infield.
The final was a 4–3 Mansfield win.
It was the Cubs' fifth win of the season and tipped their record to the plus side at 5–4 after nine games.
“Our defence is really good, our pitching's been awesome,” said Cubs coach, George Linger. “Our bats have finally started coming around, we're getting good hits. That was our first home run of the year. That was one we really needed.”
The Cubs have returned this season with “basically the same team we had last year,” Linger said, plus two new players.
On the mound, Tyler Linger has stepped up pitching six of the nine games they have played this season.
The Creemore team came to the Mansfield diamond as a second place team with only two losses behind them this year so for the Cubs it was a banner game to come out with the win.
“They're a good team, a good defensive team,” Linger said of the Creemore squad. “They're fast, they've got strong arms, they're a good hitting team - a solid all around team, so it was a big win for us to beat these guys.”
The New Lowell Knights are in first place in the North Dufferin Baseball League with 18 points as of June 11. The Barons are close behind with 16 points.
After this game, the Cubs are in the number seven spot in the 14 team Senior Division.
The Cubs will be back on the diamond in Mansfield on Sunday, June 21 for a double header against the Bolton Dodgers.
Game one will get underway at 3 p.m.
The pitch for the second game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
