Pantene's Beautiful Lengths wigs are distributed for free to female cancer patients through the Canadian Cancer Society which has wig banks in community offices across the country and supplies wigs to a number of cancer centres. As well as donating hair the participants also raised money which they are donating to help develop the new Chemotherapy Suite at Headwater's Health Care Centre. Nicole Hand from Headwater's Health Care Foundation was on hand to thank all the participants and showed them a drawing of what the future Chemotherapy Suite will look like once complete. With the entire school looking on these twenty-one participants had a person of their choice do the honours of cutting their hair off! One by one each of them chopped anywhere from eight inches to ten inches of their hair off in order to make someone a wig. This touched my heart as my mother has suffered from the effects of Chemotherapy, with the loss of her hair. I was thrilled to see so many young people willing to help someone they don't even know and who knows maybe it was one of them who helped my mother to look and feel better. All of this thanks to seven year old Viola Brown, who is only in grade three and is responsible for starting, last year, what is becoming an annual end of the year school tradition at Glenbrook Elementary Public School. Now for the drum roll.....in total Glenbrook Gives raised a total of $2000 to help towards this much needed centre in our area. Congratulations goes out to Faye O'Connor and Tami Bye who coordinated this event told everyone in attendance that they look forward to seeing everyone at next years Glenbrook Gives and so does this reporter!
