Photo Voice project completeWellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health completed their Photo Voice project “Picturing Health in Our Community” in June with a display of photography at the Shelburne Library captured and captioned by Shelburne residents. Photos pictured what helped or hindered healthy living in Shelburne. The photographer of “Strawberries” explained that the photo “shows the difference in price of strawberries. One is organic, the other is non organic. Even without a sale price, the price difference is over $2.00. Many families would like to add more organic foods to their diet, but sadly many cannot afford to do so. Hopefully in the future the prices of organic will drop so more families can eat organic fruits and vegetables.” The study found common themes in the different communities' including: high food prices made staying healthy difficult in everything from food to fitness; access to fast food, rather than fresh food made a healthy diet challenging; and low income areas were less likely to support healthy living with major barriers to those with fewer resources.
