Cubs take loss in Wednesday night gameThe Mansfield Cubs are .500 for the season after a loss to the Orangeville Giants Wednesday (June 24) night at the diamond in Mansfield. The loss came three days after the Cubs split their double header with the Bolton Dodgers – winning game one but taking a loss in the second game of the day. The game against the Giant had the Cubs trailing in the early going when a Giants batter hit a two run home run to start the scoring then followed up with two more to end the third inning. The Cubs got on the scoreboard when Tyler Linger made it to second base on an error at first and Rob Kinsley knocked the ball over the fence for a two-run homer. Next up at the plate, Brad Caldwell put the ball out of the park for a solo home run to close the gap to 4–3 to end the third inning. That's all the Cubs could do for the night in terms of scoring. A grand slam by O-ville's Carson Burns in the sixth inning put four more runs on the Giants' side of the score board. Three more Orangeville runs crossed the plate before the side retired leaving the Cubs down ten runs with once more chance at bat. The game ended with the Cubs taking three outs to end the inning. The loss leaves the Cubs with a 7–7 record for the season and a seventh place standing in the 14 team North Dufferin Baseball League. The New Lowell Knights are currently leading the League with 27 points. They are followed by the Aurora Jays in second and place and the Clearview Orioles in third. By Brian Lockhart |
