Boy dies in farm accident


On Sunday, July 5th a post mortem examination was conducted in Hamilton, to determine the cause of death of the 4 year old boy who was injured as a result of a large tractor tire falling over on top of him while he was playing in the area. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma consistent with begin trapped under a tractor tire. Foul play is not suspected.
The deceased's identity is being withheld out of respect for the family.
• On Saturday, July 4, at 11:35 a.m., Grey County OPP, received a report of an injured 4 year old boy at an agricultural residence on Hwy. 89 in the Township of Southgate. Officers were advised that a large farm tractor tire had fallen over, pinning the boy.
The victim was transported by ambulance to hospital where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
The investigation is being conducted under the authority of the Coroner's Office, with the assistance of Grey County OPP and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Andy Raffay.
The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch is mandated to provide investigative oversight on all death investigations of persons under the age of 5 years.
The Farm Safety Board has been notified.
