Celebrating the 108 glorious years

August 20, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Sunday, August 16 was a day of celebration for the Grace Church of the Nazarene as we gathered in the morning service at Unit 3, 736 Steele St. in Shelburne to celebrate the 108th anniversary of the congregation.
Under the leadership of Rev. Frank Goff, a Camp meeting was held on August 15, 1907 on 30 Side Road between the 1st line and Centre Road.
From that beginning, after amalgamations of various groups over the years, including the Holiness Workers Association and the Gospel Workers Church, they joined with the Church of the Nazarene on Sept. 7, 1958.
In 1965 the congregation became known as the Grace Church of the Nazarene and worshipped in the old post office on Owen Sound St. until 1999.
Several moves later, we celebrated on Sunday that after 108 years we are still here, serving and ministering in Shelburne!
In a letter from our District Superintendent over Ontario, the pastoral leadership of Rev. Bob McLellan and Rev. Maxine McLellan and the ministry leadership of Andrea McLellan were recognized as they celebrate 20 years in Shelburne as of Sept. 1.
Following the service we enjoyed the lovely summer weather and a barbeque lunch at the parsonage on Main St. W. Ken and Ruth Shaw, from Collingwood, favoured us with their country gospel singing with Ken masterfully playing the guitar during the service and the lunch.
After lunch we presented a well deserved Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation to each of Ted Fendley from Georgetown, and Paul Vigus from Shelburne, co-owners of Ted’s Landscaping.
Since Aug of 2014 these fellows did a terrific job of planning and then creating over time a beautiful and comprehensive landscaping design for the park like three acres on which the church parsonage sits.
Our final celebration of the day was the dedication of the parsonage and property as we asked for God’s blessing for the facilities to be used for fellowship and ministry for the Kingdom of God.
We finished up with a delicious selection of deserts and more singing by Ken and Ruth Shaw.
It truly was a day of celebration and we look forward to having more reasons to celebrate in the future.
