Murder investigation continues, $50,000 reward still being offered It's been five years since Sonia Varaschin first went missing. The body of the 42-year-old Orangeville resident, a nurse, was later discovered by a hiker in a wooded area of Caledon. Orangeville Police Service began the investigation into her disappearance on August 30th, 2010, after she failed to show up for work that day. Her body was discovered on Sunday September 5, 2010, off Beechgrove Sideroad. A post mortem confirmed that Varaschin was a victim of homicide. For the past five years, detectives from both the Orangeville Police Service and the OPP have actively been investigating the murder of Varaschin. Last year, on the fourth anniversary of her disappearance, police released videotape footage of two men, exiting a gazebo, asking for the public's help to identify them, as they were persons of interest in the case. They even offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. The investigation remains ongoing, and is being conducted under the direction of Detective Inspector Shawn Glassford of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). “The public has been very actively involved in this investigation from the outset and continues to play an integral and supportive role,” said Detective Inspector Glassford. “We have received over 1000 tips and believe that this murder will be solved with a key piece of information that comes from a person within the community. No matter how small the information, each and every tip has and will continue to be thoroughly investigated”. “The $50,000 reward has been authorized by the Government of the Province of Ontario remains in place for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Sonia Varaschin, anonymity is guaranteed through Crime Stoppers and our dedicated tip line remains active. These viable options remain available for providing additional information that may help to identify and bring Sonia's killer to justice“ added Detective Inspector Glassford.
