September’s Supermoon The full moon for September 2015 is a big event! It brings the nearest Supermoon of the year and a total lunar eclipse! As per the Farmer's Almanac August 27 brings a “perigee” full moon which means the day the full moon rises happens to also coincide with the day when the moon is nearest to the Earth in its orbit. Which is also know as a “Supermoon”. This September's Supermoon is also the nearest Supermoon of the entire year. Traditionally a full moon nearest the autumnal equinox is called the Harvest Moon. During this month it is said that the moon helps farmers with their harvest by providing more light late into the night enabling them with more time in their fields to harvest their crops. This September's full moon will be unique. It will begin as a Supermoon and will be the brightest full moon of 2015. Then it will become a blood moon, often called a sign of end times and will be the dimmest of the year. Some people believe that these exceptional lunar events are signs of high tides, earthquakes and other natural disasters. Early in the morning on September 28th, the Moon will be slightly closer to the Earth, leading to what's known as a Supermoon. It will be extra bright, particularly around 2 a.m. But then, the moon will start to disappear. Beginning at about 3 a.m., a lunar eclipse will begin, leaving the moon a sickly red colour. By 4:30 a.m., the eclipse will be over. Followers of the “Blood Moon Prophecy” are convinced that this event will bring about the end of the world, but pretty much everyone else believes that it will bring about a spectacular celestial display, seldom ever seen.
