NDBL moves to senior championshipIt will be an interesting final series in the North Dufferin Baseball League and a fun one to watch for fans. The New Lowell Knights are facing the Ivy Leafs in the championship series. The Mansfield Cubs put up a good fight in the first round but lost out to the Knights in a series that went three games. On the other side, the seventh place Orangeville Giants made a surprise underdog win by knocking out the second place Aurora Jays to advance to the second round. They lost to New Lowell in a tough series that went the distance. That left New Lowell to face the Leafs who ended the regular season in third place. The Leafs made it to the championship after knocking out Barrie in three games in first round action then dispatching Clearview in four games during the second round. Game one of the final series got underway on Saturday, August 29, in New Lowell and Ivy took an early lead winning the first game 3–2. Highlights from that game include a solo home run by Phil Tan. The series moved to Ivy's home diamond for game two on Sunday, August 30, and got off to a 2:30 p.m. start. The series was evened when New Lowell got the edge in the second game leaving with 7–2 win to make it a 1–1 series. The series will now take a two week break in the action before getting back to business. Game three of the series is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, in New Lowell. This is an early one scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Game four will return to Ivy the following day, Sunday, September 13, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m. By Brian Lockhart |
