Shelburne Library news

October 1, 2015   ·   0 Comments

We hosted the Saugeen Area Library meeting on Monday, September 28th with 15 area CEOs and Head Librarians in attendance. Along with a great exchange of ideas and programming news, we were delighted to show our new Children’s Library and also our Reading corner by the upstairs fireplace. The latter is still a work in progress but it looks lovely. Do come in, make yourself comfortable and read in one of our new chairs!
The afternoon speaker was Michael Ciccone who is Executive Director of CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access). He spoke about the role of Public Libraries in providing access for visually impaired patrons. The movement is to migrate from CNIB to provide even more resources for visually, physically or learning-disabled patrons. We, at SPL, were very proud to be described as a success story in terms of the number of patrons we serve with Daisy Talking books and Large Print resources.

New Books:
I am reading Louise Penny’s new Book, Beastly Thing. Again, she has Inspector Gamache, featured investigating the murder of a young boy in Three Pines. The flavour of her previous books comes through in the language and the characters but I am not sure how solid her plot line is in this book. I welcome other readers to check it out and then we can compare notes.
