Harvey Kolodny thanked Iain Scott on behalf of the Dufferin Arts Council for his lectures on the upcoming season at the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York City. Scott, who is an expert in the field of opera, was in Dufferin presenting a lecture at Westminster Church in Orangeville on September 27th and a second lecture September 28th in Rosemount. Mr. Scott has been to the County on several occasions to enlighten and inspire opera beginners and lovers alike. Scott explained the Opera Company began radio broadcasting from the Met during the Second World War every Saturday afternoon with Milton Cross as the host. Ten years ago, the company set up satellite feed to cinemas, and in the upcoming season they will present 11 live video broadcasts – to which Cineplex has exclusive rights in Canada. Scott laid out the eleven very different shows like a “smorgasbord” for varying musical palettes, explaining subtle differences between Italian, French and German composers and time periods. The season includes The Magic Flute (English version) Roberto Devereux, Il Trovatore, Otello, Manon Lescaut, Madama Butterfly, Turandot,(Italian) Tannhauser, Elektra, Lulu, (German) and Les Pecheurs de Perles (French.)
