The Shelburne Sharks came up short in their weekend home game taking a 9–2 loss to the visiting Oshawa River Kings.
The Sharks got off to a bad start when the River Kings took a 3–1 lead to end the first period.
Sebastian Wagner scored the only Shelburne goal on an assist from Christian Huber with 28 seconds left in the frame.
The second period didn’t turn out much better when Oshawa scored two unanswered goals.
The Sharks had a couple of chances on a five on three powerplay but they couldn’t capitalize on the situation and couldn’t find the back of the Oshawa net.
Returning for the third period, the Sharks where again outgunned with Oshawa netting four against Shelburn’s single.
Kelsey Katchuik got the lone Shelburne third period goal.
It didn’t help that the Sharks players spent 30 minutes in the penalty box in minors.
The River Kings spent 26 minutes in the box and also received a five minute major and game misconduct for one of their players.
At six games into the season the Sharks are still struggling and have won only one game after stepping out onto the ice six times this year.
The Alliston Coyotes are currently leading the Central Division of the Greater Metro Hockey League going undefeated after four games. They are followed by the Tottenham steam who have not lost in their three games this season.
The Sharks finished up the week when they travelled to Oshawa on Monday, September 28, to take on River Kings.
The final was an 11–4 win for Oshawa.
The Sharks will be back on home ice on Monday, October 5, to host the Bradford Bulls.
Game time is 8:30 p.m.
