Runaway wheel

On Thursday Oct. 1st just after 3 p.m., a motorist driving East on County Road 88 near Hwy. 400 had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by a run away wheel. The motorist was able to avoid the 40 pound wheel and give police information on where the wheel came from. The wheel had come off of a trailer being pulled by a large truck.
Luckily, the wheel came to rest on the side of the road and did not strike any other vehicle. South Simcoe police located the driver of the truck and conducted a commercial motor vehicle inspection of the truck and trailer.
Investigation showed that the wheel had not been properly secured and had come off the trailer.
The truck driver, a 22 year old man from Orangeville was charged with operating an unsafe vehicle, driving under suspension, and numerous other commercial truck violations.
The company the man works for also faces seven charges for commercial truck violations. The man and his company will appear in court in October.
