Royals baseball battles CCVI

The Centre Dufferin District High School Royals baseball team is still looking for their first win of the season, but they've had some impressive efforts on the diamond.
The squad travelled to Guelph on Monday, September 28, to face Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School.
They were squeezed out by a single run taking a 3–2 loss to Madonell.
“It went pretty good,” said Royals shortstop / pitcher Ty Doney. “I started that game and pitched the first four innings and we gave up only two runs. We only lost 3–2 – we're getting better every game. The first two games we weren't too strong but we started practicing and near the end of the season we're getting a lot better and getting ready for playoffs.”
Returning to their home diamond at Princess of Wales Park in Orangeville, the Royals suited up for a game against Centennial Collegiate from Guelph.
Centennial opened the scoring in the first inning with a pair of runs, then capitalized in the second when they loaded the bases and managed to bring in three more runs to take a 5–0 lead.
Royals' Mitchell Skilton led off with a single to start the Centre Dufferin second frame but the team couldn't finish with anything on the scoreboard.
Guelph had the bats moving again in the fourth and brought in three more runs.
The Royals got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Keith Gordanier got on base with a nice hit down the third baseline then followed up with a steal at second base.
A sacrifice bunt by Matt Cameron forced the play to first base and allowed the Royals base runner to make it across home plate.
Shelburne's Ryan McLean scored the second Royals run when a bad throw at home gave him enough time for a wild dash to steal home.
Royals pitcher Ty Doney had the hit of the game in the fifth inning with a ball placed deep in left field. Doney turned on the afterburners passing second base and making it to third base for the triple.
He scored on the next at-bat when Jake Currie hit a single.
The Royals tried to close the gap in the final inning but the game ended with a player caught on the run and chased down between second and third base.
“We stayed strong and battled back and got a couple of runs,” said Dony who pitched the final three innings for the Royals. “We're looking to improve ever game we have and hopefully in the next game we can get the win.”
The Royals have one more game on the regular schedule for this season.
