Muskies take loss in home opener The Shelburne Senior AA Muskies took a loss in their first outing of the season when the Mapleton-Minto 81s came to town and left with an 8–4 win. The 8 p.m. game got underway with a ceremonial puck-drop to kick off the new season in front of a large contingent of local fans who turned out to get behind their team. The Muskies were trailing 2–1 at the end of the first period after Mapleton-Minto notched the opening game goal at just under two minutes into the game. The Muskies first period goal came from Ed Gaffney on an assist from Nick Glassford. It was the second period that found the Muskies in trouble when Mapleton-Minto scored three unanswered goals to take a 5–1 lead and put the pressure on the Shelburne squad to get back in the game in the third period. The Muskies did respond scoring three quick goals in the final frame but a pair of Mapleton-Minto markers ended the game a 8–4. Third period Muskies goals came from Nick Glassford, Blake Lovell, and Luke Richardson. Lovell, and CJ Schneider were credited with assists. The Muskies spent 12 minutes in the box on minors compared to 16 minutes for the 81's. Shots on goal were listed as 60 for the Muskies and 62 for the 81's making it a pretty even game in that department. The Muskies will off to Elora on Friday, October 9. They will return to home ice at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex on Saturday, October 17, to host the Ripley Wolves. Game time is 8 p.m. By Brian Lockhart  Photos by Brian Lockhart |
